Hi Everyone
I am new to the board and wonder if anybody can help. I am now 17 wks pregnant and am suffering from really really bad acid reflux. I thought that by now I would begin to start feeling really great and be enjoying pregnancy but so far have been feeling quite the opposite. I suffered badly with hyperemises gravidarium and had to go to hospital for a drip and finally on week 16 the nausea begin to ease but now I am really suffering with this burning feeling in my tummy and throat and it is also making me feel sick and miserable.
Are there any cures for this or natural remedies that might help at all. I am desperate for advice.
Thanks so much

Hiya
Welcome to the forum.
Is acid reflux the same as heartburn? If so, you can take gaviscon. I also find milk, yoghurt and icecream help. I can only take gaviscon as a last resort as it is so disgusting, but it does do the trick for a while.
Sorry if I'm barking up the wrong tree!

hi there. I agree with andrea g. Gaviscon works a treat. Try to get the peppermint one it tastes better....pink one....Gaviscon advanced is good but tastes like pap......I will say dont take to much of it though as i made my self aneamic by taking to much, but it helps.... Good luck with your pregnancy,,,,Mum to 8 will be more when i get a scan and find out how many i am having,1 one be good but the more the merrier.....  :talkhand:   :rotfl:

I lived on milk the first time around. Felt like my heartburn was burning a hole in my chest by the end of the pregnancy. I probably will be drinking gallons again this time too - it really cooled it down for me x

oh and remegels too - cos gaviscon made me gag

I've never had a taste for milk until I got pregnant, now I can drink glasses of it and its helping with the queasiness as well as clearing up these pains. The chemist did also recommend Gaviscon for me too when I had weird pains between my rib cage and belly button.

If you find over the counter medicines like gaviscon etc dont work then go and see your doctor, they'll be able to prescribe you something.

I was on ranitidine (prescribed) with my last three pregnancies, i suffered so bad i felt sick constantly and like my chest was being burnt open i still took gaviscon, remegel etc as well it was so bad.

I suffer heartburn anyway but am now on a new tablet, Ranitidine neutralises any acid where as the one i am on now prevents the stomach from producing it or at least too much of it.

I've just found out i'm pregnant with number 4 and have my doctors appointment tuesday to see if i can stay on these tablets or not, i so hope i can cause the thought of all the dreaded heartburn coming back is scary

Your GP will prescribe gaviscon so its free its worth talking to your GP
