Evening ladies...

2) what foods should i be staying clear of....I know about mayo, seafood, peanuts....anything else?

3) is it safe to take paracetomol?

Many thanks

My husband has been with me at the EPU and he is coming with me on Tuesday, dont know if I can survive the wait without his support.

Not sure about booking in appointment, I got an impression they just asked a lot of questions.

I am staying away from raw eggs, unpasteurized cheese, pate, any undercooked meat or fish(no steak for me!). Not sure about peanuts.

I think paracetamol is the only thing we are allowed

Hiya

I took my OH to my booking in with my first as it was the same time as the scan, BUT it was helpful as they asked about medical history from both sides and I hadn't got a clue about his side at all.

Food - in 2009 they decided peanuts were ok for pregnant and breastfeeding mother unless you yourself had a peanut allergy (Dur) or I suppose close family members who do. Avoid raw eggs, runny yolks, liver and products, sofy cheeses as in bree etc (I did ckeck I could still have Phillidelphia (d'oh))

Not sure what pets you have but if you have cats either get the OH to clean their litter tray or wear gloves.

Paracetamol is ok, although I avoid any medications unless I am crawling on the floor I feel so bad!?!

Hope that helps! x x

Hi

I didn't take my other half to the booking in appointment because he had a meeting at work and didn't feel it necessary for him to cancel it. They do ask you loads of questions about your medical background so it may be useful to have him there.

I'm not sure about the advice for food anymore - You should avoid homemade mayo as it contains raw eggs but it's OK if it's from a jar. The only risk of raw/runny eggs is that you may get salmonella from them, however you can buy eggs pasturised now so there is very little chance of having this. I must admit I've had a florentina pizza whilst pregnant and the egg was slightly runny on that but I was willing to take the risk.

I thought you couldn't eat shellfish either but my book from the midwife suggests it's OK if it's cooked and to just avoid raw shellfish, such as Oysters.

There's also conflicting advice about peanuts. There's no evidence that eating them whilst pregnant causes an allergy in babies, however they do say avoid eating them if there's a history of allergy in your family - nuts, hayfever, other allergies, etc.

Hope that helps x

thanks everyone....well i dont like shellfish anyway or pate or undercooked meat or brie...he he...so we should be okay!

i do love my coleslaw and garlic mayo though :( oh well...small price to pay eh.....

we have some steaks for this week but i like mine well done anyway :)

xx

Hi hunny

My OH has come with me to all four of my booking in appointments (i had to have one at the docs and one at the hospital for each pregnancy) and i wouldnt have it any other way :)

Its only homemade mayo, you should stay clear off as it contains raw egg white, you can eat the ones you buy from the shop.
You can eat prawns but i was advised only eat them if you have cooked them fully yourself from fresh.
Peanuts appartly are ok now too. Say away from pate, meats not cooked properly like rare steak ect, runny eggs and anything that has raw egg white in. Hope this helps hunny x x

My OH didnt come to booking in appointment with me, wasnt really a need for him there as i knew his family history, plus ive done it all before in 1st pregnancy! :)

They give you a book at your booking in appointment that has all the foods you should stay clear of! but if you cant wait till then, i could write you up a list :)

Paracetamol is fine in pregnancy! :)

thanks everyone... :)

you're sll spot on :)

good job you can still eat hot curries....cos that is my love...he he xx

sofy cheeses as in bree etc (I did ckeck I could still have Phillidelphia (d'oh))

Sorry if I being thick but can you eat Philadelphia? I thought all soft cheeses were out?

3) is it safe to take paracetomol?

A doctor on BBC news said that if you have a fever then take a paracetomol because a fever isn't good for the baby, but don't just pop them on a whim because it did cause harm to the baby (can't remember what now).

Her advice was not to take anything unless it might harm the baby not to :)

my only worry is before i knew i was pregnant...so when i would have been about 5/6dpo....i took some day and night nurse cos i had really bad cold and was struggling.....hope that didnt affect bean xx

Binzy - it's cheeses that have a listeria risk, so brie, camembert that sort of thing. Cheese spreads are ok (guess they're pasturised).

Excellent! I love philadelphia!

:)

I took my mam and OH to my appointment.
You only can't eat mayo if it is made out of raw egg...which most shop bought mayo is fine. The thing my midwife told me not to eat was runny egg. Paracetamol is fine. xxx

Night nurse won't of affected the baby, it probably wouldn't have implanted then xxx

Get ur hellmans garlic mayo and coleslaw from shelf (not counter in case made with proper mayo. Or make ur own coleslaw.... I lunch on nuts all the time and did last pregnancy. So far Ive taken 6 paracetomol and midwife said ok. I also love my philadelphia.... Ur all good!
