Hello everyone

I'm hoping there is someone that's had this or knows of someone who has.....

Had my 20wk scan, first attempt bubs was face down and curled up so the sonographer couldn't do all her measurements. I had to go for a walk and fill up on water and she tried again.

Second attempt bubs had moved round a bit - enough for her to get some measurements but not to check everything she needed. She did confirm spine was fine, stomach and kidneys looked ok, brain and heart fine.

But she said she was concerned that I did not have enough amniotic fluid and she asked if I'd noticed any leaking - I haven't. She told me she was going to send me over to the consultant who would have a chat with us about what low fluid means.

Consultant wasn't very informative really, just said the fluid level does rise and fall but mine is much lower than they'd expect for 20 weeks. She said the fluid is essential for lung development and they need to find out why my level is so low.

I was too upset and confused to ask questions

She took blood so I can be tested for several viruses and I'm booked in for a fetal medical review with a specialist at a different hospital on Wednesday morning.

She also said if I feel unwell over the weekend I must go straight to this other hospital.

I'm a bit all over the place now.

She told me not to google it as it would just upset me so of course I googled it and it has upset me - a lot! Doesn't sound like there is much hope and now I'm in a mess

Xx

Is amniotic fluid your waters? If so I know a lady who had 2 dry births, I.e. no waters at all & both her babies were fine. She carried very small & you would barely know she was pregnant because of it. X

Don't fret till you know for sure. They may keep a good check on you. My friends waters broke at 22 weeks. She was on bed rest in hospital for 6 weeks was then allowed home but had her boy at 28 weeks, he's doing well. She clearly lost fluid but had enough left but had to go on bed rest.

Hey hun try not to worry - my friend had this at her 20 week scan a few months back and she had just had a stomach bug. Went back for another scan and always fine. Are you sure it might not be down to dehydration in this heat? I know it's hard but try not to worry as my friend and bubba are perfectly fine. X

Rachel - yes it's the fluid in the sack. Thank you for your reply, I'm trying to stay positive.

Thank you Ellesbelles. I've gone to bed and don't plan on moving much until I know what's happening

Xx

Hi LD1978 - thank you.

It could be dehydration a lot of my googling results said to drink more than usual to try and rehydrate things so I'm in bed with a few bottles of water to keep me going

Someone I know also had this and it was dehydration. Try not to worry! X

Don't panic! :)

Drink more, rest over the weekend, if it was really urgent they'd have made you see a specialist today instead of waiting until Weds, if her measurements are good (Congrats on team pink btw), then that's the important thing. Let the medical professionals do what they do best hun and I know it's hard but try to relax (Yes, this is coming from me, the worlds biggest worrier).
Here if you need a chat xx

Sorry to hear things weren't perfect, hopefully you will get some answers and positive news on Weds. Thinking of you xx

Thank you everyone. I really wasn't expecting anything bad so it's been a bit of a shock. I've had time to calm down now and I'm just going to rest and drink until Wednesday.

I'll keep you all posted xx

Aww so sorry to hear u r worried keep us updated and we will all keep fx for u xx

Well I've got my appointment with the specialist tomorrow at 11am. I've done loads or research and I've got a list of questions to ask the Doctor.........

If my fluid is low due to a leak, what happens next?

Will my baby be ok or is it too late, has the damage to its development been done already?

Can the fluid be replaced?

What if I keep leaking?

If its due to the baby having developmental problems what happens next?

Is it too late, if so, what is the process?

How extreme is the damage to my baby? Will it survive?

What are the risks re miscarriage, premature labour and still birth?

Will steroid injections help or is it too early?

Should I be put on bed rest?

How will I be monitored if there is still a chance that my baby is ok?

I know it's a lot but I was in so much shock at my scan that I couldn't say anything through the tears.

Can anyone think of anything else I should be asking?

Xx

I wish u all the best Hun and fx for good news for u x

I really feel for you chick :( I know I'd be in a right state! Just try and stay calm and make sure you get all your questions answered! If you haven't really noticed the leaking then it can't be a lot? But then again I am no midwife! Chin up and keep strong! Drink lots of water as water helps everything and I've heard that it can build up your amniotic fluid back up! X x x

I'm so sorry things weren't all perfect for you and the baby, how awful. Hope tomorrow goes well. x

Good luck for tomorrow hun. Hopefully they will be able to give you some more information and answer some of your questions and concerns. Make sure you ask them if you're not clear, and even if you leave and then have more questions call them or go back. It it very daunting being told that there is potentially something wrong with your pregnancy, at least it has been spotted and they are seeing you to do something about it.

xxx

Thank you everyone. I'm taking my mum with me tomorrow, she's amazing in stressful situations and I know she'll ask lots if questions if I get into a head spin.

It's been a long few days but hopefully tomorrow will bring some clarity.

Thanks for all of your support xx

Just wanted to say my sister also discovered this at her 20 week scan. She was referred to fetal medicine and had lots of extra scans to check babies growth etc... She also began drinking LOADS. Her son had no issues whatsoever and is now a normal healthy happy 3.5 year old.

Hope things go ok tomorrow Hun will be thinking of you xxx
