Hi,

I've got my 16w mw appointment this afternoon but not sure what to expect really. What is she likely to do/say?

My 16w appointment was amazing!

I ended up seeing 2 male midwife's - one a consultant (he was jsut taking my appointment as MW was sick) and a student.

We had a chat, went through all my blood test results, they did weight and blood pressure and tested my urine.

They also got the doppler out and let me listen to HB!!

xxxxxxxxxxx

Ooo yours sounded like fun. Hopefully she'll try and hear the hb too x

At mind she just answered any questions I had, took my blood pressure and had a listen to baby's heartbeat which was incredible. OH wasn't there so recorded the heartbeat for him on my phone. Really recommend that either way if you're a sentimental kind of person as I love having the first time I heard the heartbeat :)
Hope you enjoy it! x

Not all health trusts do hun, so don't be too disappointed!!

But fingers crossed they do

xxxxxxxxxx

mine went through my blood results, talked to me about breast feeding, any diet points i need to vary (for me it was more leafy greens and red meat) ummmm and we listed to the HB with the doppler. Although my midwife was listening to the right and i was like no no give it here it's not there lol she let me do it, i told her i bought a doppler and then she told me i should become a midwife.

Other than that, no biggie. Was in and out pretty quickly.

Our board is different.

We get bloods done at 15 weeks (screening) then I dont go back to my midwife until a week after the scan. But my 15w one we went over my blood results from previous and heard HB - had a chat xxxx

Ask to hear heartbeat hun, they might say no but mine didn't offer but said she would when i asked!

At mine she went through my blood results from my booking appointment, took my blood pressure, asked how everything was going, then said lets see if we can find baby shall we! The student midwife used the doppler and found the heart beat pretty much straight away and then it got really loud and she said, looks like baby's moved closer!! It was amazing!

Thanks for the replies everybody. It's at 4pm so fx she will let me hear it, I'll ask if she doesn't mention it x

I also just had bloods, urine analysis, bump measurement, height (like thats going to change :) ) weight and heatbeat check. They discussed any results from bloods, dating scan and answered any questions I had. I had mine at the same time as my consultant appointment so that was my chance to discuss my birth plans etc.

I had my 25 week appointment today and it was the exact same as my 16 week. Infact, apart from the scan at 21 weeks I haven't seen anyone in the 9 weeks.

Fingers crossed you hear it. I love hearing mine on the doppler :) Ive a recording on my phone too and sent it to Daddy. xxx

I ordered a AS doppler and it said dispatched then emailed me to say out of stock bloody great - I will be reordering this week or hiring one of the MW ones as OH wasnt with me at that appointment as I told him it was just for bloods oops! lol xxx

hope it goes well doob :) i've got mine next week so couldn't be of help but hopefully you'll get to hear the HB! :)

I got a telling off from the midwife today for using mine. She says 'it's a dangerous tool in the wrong hands, now promise me you'll put it away Gayle? '

Not a chance, I love it! I hired a medical device one too and its brill. It picks up everything and is so clear. Worth the money each month! Xx

Well I think as long as you know there is a possibility that you cant hear the heart beat every time then you should be fine.

Her nose was probably put out of joint lol - I would have said sorry your here to advise me not make me promise to put it away!

Ill prob hire one xxx

I said there was no chance I would put it away!!! I actually pointed her to where she'd best hear it as she was over the other side and I can never pick it up from there. She probs thought I was being a smart arse!!! Hire is good, they are great quality. xxx

Well it went fine-ish but incredibly quick! I was in and out within 10 minutes. She didn't go through my bloods or check my weight just noted I was booked in for the GTT and did a urine test. Briefly checked there was a hb but as soon as she found it she said yes all fine and took it off. She then spent longer telling me that if I had a doppler how I was to only use it once a week as there had been no studies done into the effects of using it lots and using it 'untrained'...hmmm! Finally ended with are you concerned about domestic violence at all?!

Firstly I'm glad baby and u are well....but oh my, what a crap experience. Im sorry, cause these little milestones are amazing. I use my doppler every day.....can't help myself! Woops xxxx

I know! tbh I'm glad being ill over the last few days meant I'd forgotten about it until this morning when DH reminded me. If I'd been building it up in my head I'd have been very disappointed x

My MW told me off too as I picked up 2 hb's so she said unless i'm medically trained I don't know what I'm doing- and now I know I'm expecting twins so she can be quiet!

Doob I think my appt next week will be exactly the same as yours.xx
