So my surgery has said the doctor likes to see you for your 16 week midwife appt. anyone else's do this also?

Will they listen to my babies heartbeat? I really feel ill need that reassurance between 12 week scan & 20 wk.

Hiya, I didn't have to see my doctor for my 16week check and my midwife didn't try and listen in to heartbeats (twins) until I was 24weeks. When I was pregnant with my little girl who is now 2 they used to start listening in at 16 weeks so this must be a recent change. We booked in for a 4d scan at 17weeks as we wanted the reassurance too, 8weeks with no scan or listening in was too long!xx

Nice guidelines say not to until 24w, and Drs aren't usually as skilled as midwives in finding the hb. However, most mw will look at 16w even if you ask so hopefully dr will too!! Xx

I think a lot do JoJo, so it's a bit of a shock when some won't!! My friends mw couldn't find hers at 16w and she went into a massive panic and had a private scan to reassure her! Which is why the guidelines say not to, I guess, to avoid that kind of panic?

Hey! I heard my DD's heartbeat at 16 weeks and I have an appointment with the midwife at 16 weeks in a few weeks time. I have the same midwife I did last time so I assume she will again. I also got to listen to the heart beat at 12 weeks, the scan machines at our hospital have built in doplers! It was lovely!

I'll have to just ask the doc then & if not see if the midwife can slot me in somewhere between 16&20 weeks.

I had a 16 week midwife appointment. I was worried about not hearing the heartbeat but we didn't even have to ask she just did it and it was really nice because I got told by a few people that they don't listen at 16 weeks anymore though maybe it depends on the area.

That's reassuring love87. I'll certainly be asking the doc!
